Bradford Grammar School to Host First WRMG Environmental Design Challenge
West Riding Motor Group on Station Road in Bradford has joined forces with Bradford Grammar School to inspire Year 9 students to design a new in-car product to raise environmental awareness.
The product will promote the environment and highlight concerns of importance for mankind, endangered species and other environmental issues.
The competition represents an opportunity for Bradford Grammar School pupils to design a product that focuses on key environmental issues that relate to all consumers. It is hoped that entries will go beyond innovation, helping students to learn how environmental design solutions can mean smart business too.
For WRMG marketing manager Danny Holden said, “This competition really captured our imagination. The school has a forward-thinking design and technology department and we have been impressed by the thought and consideration they have for the environment in the design process. We’ve loaned the school a Toyota Prius and we hope it will help to inspire the students to deliver some great competition entries.”
The winning products will be displayed in WRMG Toyota dealerships in Bradford, Huddersfield, Keighley and Keighley. The best designers in each of five categories will receive a range of personal prizes while their parents will each enjoy a Toyota Prius for the weekend. The over all winner’s parents will enjoy a £45,000 Lexus hybrid for a weekend from Bradford Lexus – also operated by WRMG.
Mike McKay Head of Design and Technology at Bradford Grammar School said, “We’d like to thank WRMG for supporting this competition. Both WRMG dealerships, Toyota and Lexus, have successfully adapted their car ranges and applied technology to reflect the way the world is changing. The Prius and Hybrid are great examples of how manufacturers have considered how they can deliver products for customers whilst meet environmental targets too. Our challenge to our students is to think about this competition in the same way.”
